Kwestan Jamal Ali is a painter from Kurdistan in Iraq who came to Norway six years ago, escaping from political persecution under the former regime in Iraq. Coming from the kurdish background, Kwestan has experienced the brutalities of life and especially the oppression of women. This experience naturally forms the main thread in her paintings. Kwestan is balancing between hope and despair. In one of her paintings titled "The story of the stone", she symbolises the flight of Kurdish people up the mountains. Feet are entangled in an abstract formation reflecting movement on stones. Kwestan herself had to escape with a five months old child. "I get my inspiration from the plight of women world over. When I see the suffering around me I feel like expressing myself with a voice, and that voice comes in form of painting. That is why I paint" says Kwestan. Kwestan Jamal Ali is educated at Sulaimania College of Arts in Kurdistan, Irak and has had her works exhibited i Canada, Germany and Japan with the addition to Norway and Kurdistan. The exhibition, which was opened on 21. More on Kwestan Jamal Ali (in Norwegian language!) Related items
