![]() Bassekou Kouyate Nearly 300 writers, musicians, activists and other people in the business were asked to vote for Album of the Year in the World music genre. The voting was conducted by fRoots Magazine. Segu Blue emerged a clear winner ahead of other tough competitors like Andy Palacio's "Watina" as well as Tinariwen's "Aman Iman". Chris May reviewing the album for allaboutjazz.com put it this way "It's an album of understated but awesome beauty, full of lush melodies and supple rhythms, deep, peaceful and healing; happier sounding than Ali Farka Toure's music, but equally weighty and mesmeric."
