The legendary Osibisa band performed at Cosmopolite Concert Hall 9th April winding up a week long Afrikan History Week which was held in Oslo, Norway, for the first time. Front man Teddy Osei and the rest of the group were in a top form and Osibisa played most of the great hits that made the band world known in the early 70's. Afrikan History Week, aiming at raising awareness about Africa and Africans in Norway, was organised by a foundation with the same name together with Afrikan Youth in Norway (AYIN). Osibisa, meaning "crisscross rhythms that explode with hapiness, was formed in London, England in 1969 by three Ghanaian and three Caribbean musicians who mixed West African Highlife and Caribbean styles with rock. Osibisa was one of the first ever African bands to attain international popularity with hits like "Sunshine Day", "Ojah Awake", "Fire" and "Happy Little Children". Watching Osibisa live one gets a feeling of reincarnation, a return to the good old days when music was for real. Like true singers and players on instruments, the seven musicians portrayed their ability to charm and enliven the audience. It was amazing to see how Osibisa has been able to keep the intensity in their music despite more than 35 years on the road. There were many who thought Osibisa was another chapter in history, but this turned out not to be true. With the show at Cosmopolite, Teddy Osei ad the rest of the lineup proved that they are still able to deliver the goods.
