 One Gambia.com is a portal that promotes Gambian music, musicians and artists on the web. This informative music site has an array of videos, song clips as well as biographies of Gambian musicians. Run by Pa Njie, one Gambia.com is a place to visit if you are interested to keep yourself abreast with the runnings. We recommed it!
One of the female artists featured is Ndey Nyang (photo). Ndey started her musical career in her early twenties with the Karantaba Band. She was with the group until she met with Ousu 'Lion' Njie also a very popular Gambian musician, who introduced her to Mandingo Band.
After being with Mandingo for barely two years she was awarded a contract together with Musa Kalamula and the Gambian Band (a cultural music group) to travel to Europe to promote Gambia River Excursions. After spending six months she returned home to join Ousu 'Lion' Njie. The two got married in 1994 and formed their own musical band in 1995 touring the Gambia and Senegal.
After the tragic loss of her husband who passed away in 1998, Ndey Nyang-Njie has been rather quiet in the Gambian music scene only to release an album entitled 'Li ma Waar' in 2000, paying tribute to her missing hubby.
