Nasibu aka Ras Nas

BBC Swahili Service sends an interview with Nasibu aka Ras Nas on Friday 29th February. The interview will be aired on the popular BBC Swahili program 'Dira ya Dunia' (Around the world) from 19:00 - 19:30 East African Time (EAT).

This radio interview is conducted by BBC presenter Idd Seif. Ras Nas is a poet and musician from Tanzania and his latest album is titled 'Dar-es-Salaam'. In this CD, Ras Nas has worked with, among others, two musicians from Dar-es-Salaam. These are bassist Keppy Kiombile and lead guitarist Norman Bikaka. Other artists include Norwegian blues guitarist Knut Reiersrud and saxophonist Rolf Erik Nystrøm. In total 24 from nine different countries.

'Dar-es-Salaam' is Ras Nas' second CD after 'Cut You Loose' (1997). The album contains songs in Kiswahili and English. Three songs from 'Dar-es-Salaam' CD will also appear in Ngoma Rhythms compilation due for release in spring 2008.

Recently, one of Nasibu's poems 'Mandela' was selected as part of the materials for an educational DVD in North America, targeted at High School students. The DVD is produced by Julianne Hill of Mythic Pictures in Chicago.
