BANTABA is one of the cultural highlights during this year’s 1st May celebrations in Oslo, Norway. The performance, arranged by Kongoi Productions in collaboration with Family Reggae Disco, takes place at the theatre boat MS Innvik from 13.00 hrs. The BANTABA performance includes African music, dance and storytelling. BANTABA collective is comprised of musicians from different parts of Africa. These are Nasibu Mwanukuzi, Tanzania (dun dun, kenkeni, vocal), Aliou Cissoko, Senegal (kora, vocal), Abuwa Edema, Nigeria (percussions, vocal) and Ali Jabang (djembe, vocal). All the four artists are seasoned and highly experienced, having background in both theatre and music. “We aim at making the rich storytelling tradition of Africa survive and be known. African storytelling culture is not very well known in Norway, however the society is becoming more diverse and we think there is a need for the youth of today to acquaint themselves with other cultures,” says Abuwa Edema.
