Africa Unite 2008 The Marley foundation has announced the 2008 staging of “Africa Unite”, to be held in Jamaica. Initial plans had set the upcoming event to be hosted in South Africa, but due to a lack of financial support from corporate entities within the region, it has been moved to the homeland of Reggae and musical legend, Bob Marley.
Next year’s event falls under the banner “Africa Unite – Smile Jamaica”, and will consist of a live show and a series of exhibitions, symposiums and fund raising gatherings to help promote the universal message of “one Love”, the synopsis of the Foundations mission.
In addition the Marley foundation and the Jamaican based Reggae Music Academy are currently in discussions with the Jamaican Government to officially sanction Feburary as Reggae Month.
Launched 2005 in Ethiopia, “Africa Unite” is a platform used to create global awareness to vital issues affecting Africa. Africa Unite promotes peace, education and empowerment for youth in Africa while reinforcing the significance of Bob Marley's Songs of Freedom to manifest change throughout the world.
The event was hosted by Ghana in 2006.
"Our family is committed to keeping the legacy and teachings of Bob alive to spread "One Love" worldwide through the power of music, which is a gift from God," said Mrs. Rita Marley. "I have so much hope for Africa. It is our goal to bring life to the words of "Africa Unite" and aid where help is needed, while creating opportunities and sustainable change for youth in Africa and worldwide."
The Event will take place in Jamaica, between Feburary 1st and the 23rd 2008.
