TID Bongo Flava artist Bongo Flava artist Khalid Salum Mohamed popularly known in the local music circles as TID has been jailed one year after a Dar es Salaam court convicted him, 23rd July, of causing grievous harm to Ben Mashiba, also a city resident. The Kinondoni Resident Magistrate, Hamis Kalombola, said the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that the musician did commit the offence, reports 255 Enterprise Inc
It was alleged that the artiste who is riding high with a number of the top-of-the chart music committed the offence on July 2 last year. It was claimed in court that on the fateful day at Slip Way in Masaki area, Kinondoni District, the musician assaulted Mashiba, causing him serious injuries on the head and left arm.
The prosecutor, Benedict Nyagabona, asked the court to mete out a severe punishment to the musician to serve as a lesson to others who might want to take law into their own hands.
During the mitigation, TID prayed for mercy, claming that he was drunk on the fateful day. "I beg you your honour to pardon me because my family and especially my mother depend on me for their survival," he said in a low voice. However, his plea landed on a deaf ear as the magistrate said that since the musician could not control himself when drunk, prison could be the best place for him so that he could be a better citizen while there.
After the sentence was read out, the seemingly puzzled and frustrated artiste, his mother, relatives and friends broke into free tears as he was being led to the waiting bus by the no-nonsense prison wardens. As he was entering the prison bus, the artiste fainted and was helped by fellow prisoners. Before the court session began, TID arrived in a convoy of two expensive vehicles and friends who escorted him. TID rose to fame in early 2000 with his famous songs 'Zeze' and 'Siamini'.
