"Mandela" - a poem by Nasibu Mwanukuzi aka Ras Nas Taken from "Double Focus"
A collection of poetry by Tanzanian poet and musician Nasibu Mwanukuzi.

MANDELA
Across the iron bars
outside the window
it is full of ice
dread cold
is running down
to a minus degree
celcius
Standing inside
this Babylonian cage
watching
with a sharp clear vision
is a person in colour
black
in the white sense
of this word
Wings flapping
like a summer bird
peace and cool
upon a blue sky high
with the nerves
of the deepest
ocean waves
A mahogany soul
in a long march
in a long search
a blood trail
demanding freedom
so real!
Picking the flowers of survival
along the way
on one hand
A fertile seed
carrying the sprouting spirits
of African roots
on the other
Not loosing sight
on each passing night
and a fastly clearing day
Despite three solid decades
in a white man's
oppressor jail!

Poet Nasibu Mwanukuzi aka Ras Nas greeting Mr. Nelson Mandela in Oslo on 17th May 1992.
