HANAYUI at the Aratani/Japan America Theatre Hanayui The Japanese performing arts group Hanayui make their Southern California debut at the Aratani / Japan America Theatre this coming March 8th. Featuring Yoko Fujimoto and Chieko Kojima of KODO and Okinawan dance expert Mitsue Kinjo, Hanayui explores the rich folk music tradition of traveling entertainers who traversed the Japanese countryside with song and dance. Hanayui grew as an offshoot of Kodo in 1991 when original members Fujimoto and Kojima envisioned a less taiko-centric performance, and a more intimate atmosphere of folk dance and song with the taiko drum as accompaniment. Terry Callier live at Cosmopolite in Oslo Terry Callier The visionary singer-songwriter and original folk-soul hero Terry Callier plays live at Cosmopolite Concert Hall in Oslo. The concert takes place on Friday 7th March. Callier, who’s recent live and studio work with Massive Attack has been one of the Summer’s highlights, remains a truly inspiring artist and this collection unearths some new undiscovered recordings that enthral and move with every repeat listen. Callier’s career path has remained true to his output – a story of triumph against firmly stacked odds.
