Tarrus Riley recording a new album Print E-mail
Tarrus Riley. Reggae album JamaicaAccording to the Jamaica Observer , Tarrus Riley’s newest album is scheduled for a March 2009 release. The new effort should include collaborations with Damian 'Junior Gong' Marley, Etana, Allison Hinds and Demarco. Expect many new tracks, but also a few cover songs, including a Bob Marley riddim. Tarrus is currently recording at Grafton Studios in Kingston. It's the crooner's first album in three years. Saxophonist Dean Fraser takes management and production duties for Tarrus Riley's new album, as for his previous two, Challenges and Parables. The Riley team wants a Grammy with this one. "We hope that come 2009 we will definitely be there," said Frazer of his artiste who rose to popularity with Parables (2006). Riley's album Parables was not an instant hit, but snowballed with some of the biggest reggae tunes of 2007; including the eventual Song of the Year for 2007, She's Royal. "We are not trying to compete with Parables or anything like that but we should come up with something unique and musical," Frazer said to The Jamaica Observer. The album will have mostly original tracks and utilise local musicians."We have to keep the music rich and rolling over and of course we have the support of the Jamaican musicians," he said. There will be a few covers. Fraser would not disclose the names of the covers. "On this album we are doing two cover songs... (also) there is a Bob Marley rhythm that we are going to use. But otherwise straight original tracks," Fraser concluded.

Tarrus Riley (Born Omar Riley, Bronx, New York) is the son of legendary singer Jimmy Riley. In an interview with Reggae News Tarrus reveals that he has been in the music business since the age of fourteen, as a deejay. "I used to record for Willie Lindo and later for Main Street, Daddy Brownie and that." Riley' first album was Challenges (2004). The album has been reissued by VP Records this year. He is currently one of reggae music's biggest stars thanks to the massive popularity of his Jamaican number one hit single She's Royal.

The success of his album Parables (produced by Dean Fraser) and its Jamaican number one hit single She’s Royal, have made him one of reggae music’s biggest stars.
