"Bon-Air" is the title of Karlos Rotsen's debut album containing fresh sounds of jazz mixed with soul, gospel and funk. A pianist made in the West-Indies and living in Paris, Karlos is also a composer as well as arranger who has studies music at the Martinique Conservartory of Music and Dance (directed by Nicole Fraysee). Karlos has also studied at the renowned Higher Institute of Arts (ISA) in Cuba under the guidance of teachers such as Anres Alen and Ivet Frontela. In it’s own right, “Bon- Air” is a hommage to Aimé Césaire, a fusional element that becomes part of the history of “créolité” with roots stretching from Africa to the American continent, passing through the Caribbean. With a musical audacity Karlos' "Bon-Air" album challenges Martinican musical tradition (bèlè,biguine, mazurca ..) by fusing his music with influences from accross the Caribbean. Here one can hear Jamaica, Cuba and Haiti, among others. The result of this mix is a melodic and accessible sound that injects a fresh breath into Caribbean jazz.
