Ruth-Ann Brown. A unique reggae singer from Jamaica Print E-mail
Ruth Ann Brown Reggae singer from JamaicaA stunning Ruth-Ann Brown, whose music offers words of inspiration and romance, will no doubt be a heavy contender on the music scene. - The Reggae Source Magazine

She rocks you like Reggae, grabs you like Pop or Hip-Hop, and seeps into your bloodstream like any good music does. Her lyrics are straightforward, unusual and compelling. Her voice is smoky, melodic and strong. She sings about love and pain; social injustices and happiness; life and everything in between…not quite like any one you’ve ever heard or seen before. She’ll turn your head in a split second and have you asking, ‘Who is that?’ Her name is RUTH.

Born and raised in western Jamaica, Ruth-Ann Brown grew up singing on the church choir, but was always lured by secular music she heard in shops and bars in the vicinity of her home. She could always be heard singing these songs instead of the hymns she had been taught…she always stood out as a rebel. At age 8, she began penning her own rhymes and experimenting with her own melodies. She loved good music and discovered she could make her own. This love led her to launching her own career in music.

She hails the Marley family, Sade, Sinead O’Connor, Tanya Stephens, and Sizzla Kalonji as her main sources of inspiration in songwriting, recording and performing. RUTH describes herself as a sentimentalist who finds meaning in everything. “I sing about things that matter to me and to people of all ages and backgrounds. The world is deteriorating everyday and we talk of change but many of us make no effort to make a change. I do not want to add to the deterioration. I want to uplift the world. People, sometimes, need a Voice to express what they feel deep inside. I am a part of that Voice.”
