A night of music and poetry in Oslo.
Poetry and Music Oslo NorwayWord Sound and Power celebrates African music and poetry. The poets present are Zakia Khairhoum (Morocco), Nasibu Mwanukuzi (Tanzania), and Jimu Makurumbandi (Zimbabwe) while live drumming will be provided by Kossa Diomande, a master drummer from Ivory Coast. In addition to poetry reading DJ Dominic will spinn roots reggae as well as dub. The event is a curtain raiser for a series of spoken word arrangements that will take place in Oslo in summer and autumn this year.

Zakia Khairhoum is a writer who has among others, published a number of children books. Her recent novel, End of My Dangerous Secret, has received good reviews. Nasibu Mwanukuzi is a poet and musician who has published a collection of poetry, Double Focus as well as produced two critically acclaimed albums. Jimu Makurumbandi is a professional dancer, musician and poet. Dj Dominic is the initiator of the popular Family Reggae Disco and one of the primus motors for Norway's reggae scene.

Selam. Selam means "Peace" in the Ethiopian language and her name describes her feelings, hopes and desires for all life forms. Selam was born in East Africa in Addis Ababa the capital city of Ethiopia. Selam’s soul draws from a rich and royal heritage. Her maternal genetic lineage can be traced to Enoch the prophet, The Queen of Sheba up to the former Emperor of Ethiopia Halile Salassie.

Singing since age seven, Selam has been blessed with strong spiritual values and a love and passion for music. Her art exemplifies that music is a powerful tool that must be used wisely. It should be inspirational, thought provoking, fun, uplifting, and most importantly, sincere.
