 Rebel Clan Make a Lasting Mark on Hip-Hop with Their Debut Album, The Rebelution. Rap act made up of three men originally from Liberia is Infiltrat Entertainment's first move to bring African Hip-Hop to America."The Rebelution" - Rebel Clan is making their move, coming straight out of Liberia and not stopping until they hit the top of the Hip-Hop charts. Their debut album, "The Rebelution," . Rebel Clan is the first authentic African Hip-Hop act to target the American Hip-Hop charts. Made up of Thoughtz, Kidd Cartel, and Blackface Beam, Rebel Clan's music pulses with authentic aggression inherited as part of a youth in war-torn Africa. Far from being poseurs, born in the comfortable suburbs and playing at being tough, Rebel Clan learned to be tough to survive. Coming over to America in early adolescence, Rebel Clan members grew up on the streets of Philadelphia and Newark NJ. They formed a rap group in 1997 to deal with grinding poverty and the strange kind of dual racism. Rebel Clan music is designed not only to uplift but to explain their struggle. Not only did they bear the heavy burden of being black in America but they were mistreated by members of the African-American community. As recent migrants, Rebel Clan members were not entirely embraced. "The Rebelution" is a production of Infiltrat Entertainment and is soon coming out on over 100 digital music download sites, including Ingrooves, the largest distributor of digital music in the world. Ingrooves distributes indie Hip-Hop but also distributes Hip-Hop heavyweights including Jadakiss and the Nappy Roots. Infiltrat Entertainment is a brand new venture, owned by Emmett Hill. Hill is plugged in to the burgeoning Hip-Hop scene in Africa and is driven to bring the music to America. Right now, he said, the African scene is much like the American scene in the early 90s. Hip-Hop is big in South Africa especially and break dancing is still in vogue. "African Hip-Hop is more common in Europe and in Canada," said Emmett Hill, owner of Infiltrat Entertainment. "We're breaking brand new ground with Rebel Clan. So far, the reception has been incredible." Liberia was settled in 1847 when freed slaves from America returned to Africa to set up an independent republic. The West African country became a center for rubber and iron ore production and was held in the grasp of a bitter 15 year civil war, ending in 2003 and killing more than 250,000. Liberians are currently voting in a multiround election to choose a new president. Rebel Clan are taking part in a Hip Hop revolution, where raw aggression is not the only ingredient in their music. Instead, "The Rebelution" is a kaleidoscope of sounds, beats and textures reminiscent of early Fugees or Outkast.
