The sound of that ensemble is determined substantially by three timbilas, the traditional balafon-like instruments of the Chopi people of Southern Mozambique. Metchume Zango, Tinoca Zimba and Cheny Mahuaie Gune are all three also members of Timbila Muzimba, one of the most legendary groups in Mozambique. They play different sizes of timbila and percussions, but also sing and dance, and form with their timbila patterns a compact polyrhythmic sonority. Related items
