Africans from America to build city in Ghana Print E-mail
Fulfilling biblical prophecy (Genesis 15:13), prophecy in traditional African lore and the dream of ancestors, like Marcus Garvey, two groups founded by Africans from America have embarked on a project to develop 30,000 acres of land in the Eastern region of Ghana, West Africa into a state of the art, self sustaining community.

"Fihankra International, a Ghana based non-governmental organization (NGO), and the 2020 Group, an African American Real Estate Investment Group operating out of the United States, are proud to announce the launch of a joint venture aimed at the expansion of Fihankra with the construction of a new multi-million dollar township," according to a press release.

In addition to the residential and commercial properties that will be built, the planned township will feature an African-centered secondary (junior and senior high) boarding school, science and vocational center, sports and entertainment complex, senior citizens home as well as an international broadcast communications facility.  All of these are to be located in the Akwamu Traditional Area of Ghana’s Eastern Region.

“The school and other facilities will be developed upon the dual foundation of respect for history and the application of scientific knowledge in a creative and sustainable environment,” said Nana Kwadwo Akpan, founder of  Fihankra”.

Fihankra, which translates “when leaving home goodbyes could not be said”, initiated this township development in 1997. In one of the earth’s most spectacular rolling mountain ranges and virgin forests the NGO has carved out the beginnings of a full service community burgeoning with potential.  A major part of Fihankra’s mission is promoting the cultural and economic reintegration of Africa by its Diaspora. The establishment of this partnership with the 2020 Group is the next phase of that mission.

The 2020 Group was established by the d’Zert Club in January 2000 as a limited partnership, with the express purpose of investing in real estate development projects in Africa, after the club visited Ghana with 220 students, parents and adult group leaders

Historically, Ghana has been a beacon of hope for all African people. The many encouraging statements promoting social and economic cooperation between Africans from both sides of the Atlantic made by Ghana’s founding patriot Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and by its numerous heads of state since that time, best illustrate this fact. With the launch of this project the union of cultural reawakening and cooperative economic planning are welded into a concrete form through which all African people will benefit.

From August 7th to August 19th the 2020 Group will sponsor “A Homecoming 2005 Tour” with visits to Egypt and Ghana. one of the highlights of this tour will be the 2-day “homecoming” to Ye Fa Ogyamu.  Among the many exciting events planned are: The Cross-Over Ceremony, artistic performances, the groundbreaking for the first homes, the secondary and vocational school complex and a cruise down the Volta River.
