Born in the foothills of the ‘Rooftop of Africa’, Tanzania’s majestic Mt Kilimanjaro, Sauda Jasmine Simba’s love for music began in her early years, avidly listening to the legendary African American artists Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin and Gladys Knight and the Pips.
While studying in Ireland in her early 20’s, Sauda gravitated to jazz and blues, a logical progression in hindsight. Unknown to her at the time, jazz was to become her real passion. One of the major influences on Sauda was Billie Holiday, whose music and history had a profound impact on her and led to the formation of the jazz band Cheza. |

 The late Dennis Otone The memorial concert for the late Dennis Josiah Otone (1954-2010) will be held at Cosmopolite Concert Hall in Oslo, Norway, Sunday 5th September. A renowned Nigerian saxophonist, Dennis Otone passed away on 18th June in Lagos. His sudden death came as a shock to his musical friends and colleagues in Norway where Dennis lived for more than 25 years and where he was one of the most respected African musicians. "Dennis will be deeply missed. I can see a man who dedicated his life for a better world. Dennis loved people and enjoyed freedom like a bird in the sky, said " Ken Simuyemba, a long standing friend of the late Dennis Otone.
